Elbows Up for Canada
On July 5, 2025, a coalition of grassroots organizations held Elbows Up for Canada rallies in cities all along the northern border with Canada, including Buffalo and Niagara Falls, to demonstrate our friendship and solidarity with Canada and reject the lies and threats coming from the Trump administration. Learn more about Elbows Up here.
Two actions you can take to support this cause:
1. Sign this open letter from Elbows Up to Prime Minister Mark Carney: https://www.friendsxborders.org/elbowsup
2. Call Gov. Kathy Hochul at 518-474-8390 and ask her to commit to not to cooperate with federalizing the New York National Guard. If she calls them up now, Trump will not be able to federalize them later.
Demand Environmental Justice for Musk-targeted Neighborhood
from Joe Katz at Rogan’s List 6/16
For his company xAI, Elon Musk has installed Colossus, a massive supercomputer, two miles from Boxtown, a Black neighborhood in South Memphis TN, long plagued by industrial pollution. The supercomputer’s methane gas turbines emit smog-causing pollutants, formaldehyde, and other toxins and carcinogens into the air. Boxtown residents, with the help of the NAACP, are pressuring the Shelby County Health Department to deny xAI a permit for the turbines. Even without a permit, it appears that turbines are currently operating.
The NAACP is urging the Shelby County Health Department and the Memphis Light Gas and Water Board of Commissioners to stop xAI’s operations in South Memphis immediately. Support their efforts by emailing the executive secretary of the interim director of the Shelby County Health Department, Dr. Bruce W. Randolph at: deborah.mcgregor@shelbycountytn.gov and the MLGW Board of Commissioners, Chair Michael E. Polman at mpohlman@mlgw.org.
Write your own script or use this one:
I'm writing to urge you to immediately stop the operation of xAI's data center in Tennessee. Musk is operating this center without permits or oversight and in clear violation of the Clean Air Act. In addition to using massive amounts of energy and water, the center is spewing harmful toxins into the air and jeopardizing the health of the residents in nearby communities. This is pure negligence. Musk needs to be held accountable.
Sign an Open Letter to Support NIH Public Servants
(from Joe Katz at Rogan's List 6/23)
On June 9, scientists from the National Institutes of Health published the Bethesda Declaration protesting the Trump regime’s attacks on scientific research and funding. The consequences of these cuts will be devastating and long-lasting. Members of the public are welcome to sign on in support of the NIH workers, Nobel laureates, and thousands of scientists who have endorsed the Declaration. Please read the Bethesda Declaration and the support letter. Then add your name to the letter here: Back the Bethesda Declaration
