New York Residents: Protect Our Immigrant Neighbors
adapted from Jessica Craven at Chop Wood Carry NY 8/13
With the passage of H.R. 1 (the GOP budget bill), Republicans handed Trump and notorious xenophobe Stephen Miller $171 billion to supercharge mass deportations — including $45 billion for detention centers and $30 billion for new ICE officers and transportation.
The New York for All Act S.2235 (Gounardes) / A3506 (Reyes), which was introduced to the state legislature in March 2025, would limit the collaboration of city and state agencies like law enforcement with federal immigration enforcement unless they provide a judicial warrant. According to a letter sent by a dozen unions to Governor Hochul and the NYS Legislature, “This bill represents the strongest action that New York State can take to keep immigrants together with their families and ensure that the efforts at mass deportation do not tear thousands of New Yorkers from their communities.”
If you live in NY, follow this link to send your members of Congress a pre-scripted letter urging them to support the New York for All Act S.2235 (Gounardes) / A3506 (Reyes) to prohibit state and local resources from being used for the federal deportation agenda: https://www.nyic.org/our-work/campaigns/new-york-for-all/?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email
Demand protection from ICE raids at domestic violence shelters
adapted from Americans of Conscience
The Working for Immigrant Safety and Empowerment (WISE) Act (H.R. 2851) was introduced in the House of Representatives on April 10, 2025 by Rep. Pramila Jayapal. This bill would extend immigration benefits to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and other gender-based violence, and would prohibit ICE activity at domestic violence shelters and similarly sensitive locations. Learn more about the WISE Act provisions here.
Call or email your senators and House rep. and urge them to support the WISE Act. Write your own script or use this one:
I’m reaching out in support of the WISE Act (H.R. 2851), which prohibits ICE activity at domestic violence shelters and similarly sensitive locations. People who have experienced abuse deserve safety from the people who harm, threaten, or try to control them, regardless of their immigration status. I’m calling on [Sen./Rep. NAME] to loudly support the WISE Act so it can be brought to the floor for a vote.
