Action 1: New York Residents: Protect Drinking Water from Contamination with "Forever Chemicals"

From Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper

The US EPA proposes to abandon and weaken safety limits on “forever chemicals” in our drinking water; state leaders must act now to codify science-based limits in New York State law. There are over 10,000 types of “PFAS” compounds in use, and in 2024, the USEPA established science-based safety limits to keep merely 6 of these compounds out of our drinking water. Now, the current Administration announced its intent to abandon limits on 4 of those 6 chemicals (PFNA, PFHxS, Gen X, PFBS), as well as allow water utilities to apply for a two-year delay to comply with the limits for PFOA and PFOS, which have been directly linked to human cancer and other illnesses, and are the reason for a recent increase in fish consumption advisories in local waters.

Rather than protecting polluters, New York State can join Wisconsin, Maine and Vermont by enacting drinking water protections for its residents. The NYS Senate has already passed legislation, and now it is up to the NYS Assembly to pass Bill A8634B before the end of session. This bill protects New Yorkers’ health by codifying the current federal PFAS maximum contaminant levels (MCLs), maintaining the 2029 compliance deadline, and requiring DOH to determine if additional protections against cumulative PFAS exposure are needed, insulating our state from the worst of the Trump administration’s rollback. Significant state grant funding is available through the Water Infrastructure Improvement Act to help utilities install new filtration to comply with these MCLs.

Call or email your NYS representatives (see links above to find contact info for your state rep).

I'm calling on the Representative to pass Assembly Bill A8634B, a version of which has already passed the NYS Senate. This bill would codify the current science-based federal limits on six of the most prevalent forever chemicals into NY State Law. This legislation is essential to the health of New Yorkers in light of the Trump EPA's plan to abandon federal limits on these dangerous chemicals. Thank you.

Action 2: Time to Revisit the Idea of a Stock Trade Ban

Adapted from Rogan's List 5/21/26

The extraordinary and disgusting corruption of Trump’s slush fund for his allies, combined with the further revelation that his self-settlement also permanently bars the IRS from examining his tax returns, has quite properly dominated the recent political landscape. But we have also learned in recent days that the President’s been shockingly shady on the stock market, in what for most White Houses would be an administration-defining scandal. His first financial filing of 2026 showed Trump made more than 3,700 trades totaling tens of millions of dollars, including in companies he then pumped up in public appearances and that benefited from his subsequent policy decisions. As former chief White House ethics adviser Richard Painter noted, if he were defense secretary, this would absolutely be a crime, but there’s a special carveout for the president.

This has, for obvious reasons, sparked renewed interest in a ban on trading stocks for all elected officials. The Restore Trust in Congress Act (H.R. 5106) has been stalled in the House, and would need to be amended to include executive branch officials.

In the Senate, the Homeland Security & Government Affairs committee passed the bipartisan HONEST Act (S.1498) which bans members of Congress from trading or holding individual stocks. While this bill does include the President and Vice President, it contains a carve-out for Trump as the bill would only apply at the start of the next elected officials' terms.

Call or email your members of Congress and tell them to amend and support these bills. Write your own script or use these 5 Calls scripts:

[Script for House rep.]: I am calling on the Representative to support H.R. 5106, the Restore Trust in Congress Act, with an amendment to include executive branch officials, such as the President, Vice President and Cabinet. Elected officials and their family should not be allowed to trade individual stock; the potential for corruption and self-dealing is too great.

[Script for Senators]: I am calling on the Senator to support S.1498, the HONEST Act, with an amendment to remove the carve-out that protects Trump and J.D. Vance. Elected officials and their family should not be allowed to trade individual stock; the potential for corruption and self-dealing is too great.

Action 3: Pressure Major Corporations to Reduce Use and Production of Plastic Packaging and Cheap Disposable Products

Online marketplaces are known for super-fast shipping and one-click checkouts, but this convenience comes at a cost. Consumption on this extreme level devastates the environment, actively harms frontline communities, and is not sustainable.

The Plastic Pollution Coalition and other environmental groups are calling on the CEOs and shareholders of some of the world's largest companies in their sectors - Adidas, Amazon, Apple, H&M, Shein, & Unilever - to immediately reduce their use and production of plastic packaging and cheap disposable products that are trashing our planet.
