Call or email your Senators and tell them to oppose the confirmation of Harold Duncan as deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget. Duncan does not respect congressional power of the purse and wants to give the executive branch the power to cancel crucial scientific and medical research funding. A Federalist Society extremist, Flowers has compared gender-affirming care to the eugenics movement, defended abortion bans subjecting doctors to felony charges, downplayed Trump's role in January 6th, and backed rejecting 150 years of precedent upholding birthright citizenship. Action 2: Demand Congress Extend TPS for Haiti

Last week, the Supreme Court shot down challenges to Trump ending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for about 350,000 Haitians and 6,000 Syrians currently living completely legally in the United States, saying the courts were barred from reviewing them and the President’s very public racist comments about Haitians were insufficient to show racial animus. They have paved the way for one of the largest mass de-documentations in American history. More than a million other TPS recipients are now at risk.

We won’t mince words here. This is brutal, and our chances of successfully stopping it at this point are very small. But we are not going to surrender while we have any opportunity left to fight. The House actually passed a bill to preserve TPS for the Haitian community in April after a successful discharge petition, with 11 Republicans in favor. Senators Edward Markey and Lisa Blunt Rochester have introduced a similar bill in the Senate (S.4814) which would require the Department of Homeland Security to designate Haiti for TPS April 20, 2029, extending critical protections and work authorization for Haitian nationals for three years.

The Haitian Bridge Alliance is asking us to call or email our senators and urge them to push for a vote on S.4814. Write your own script or use this one. 

I am [calling/writing] to urge the Senator to support Senate bill S.4814 to designate Haiti for Temporary Protected Status. This legislation would extend protections and work authorization for more than 350,000 Haitian nationals for three years. These people are parents, workers, caregivers, healthcare providers, and faith leaders who are deeply rooted in our communities and essential to our economy. The conditions they fled in the first place have not improved - to send them back to a country in the grip of a devastating humanitarian crisis is not only dangerous, but it is wrong. Thank you.

Action 3: More Brave Judges to Thank

Facing threats, political pressure and a Supreme Court majority that has frequently not had their backs, lower court judges are still doing vitally important work to keep this administration’s power within the bounds of the law. Let’s send a note or postcard to acknowledge their work and encourage them to keep fighting.

Judge Sparkle L. Sooknanan has blocked the use of a federal database that was going to be used to compare lists of registered voters against DHS immigration data and could wrongly purge voters from rolls. Thank Judge Sooknanan from preventing yet another attempt to interfere with our elections.

Judge Patrick Schiltz has blocked an attempt by the administration to subpoena Minnesota officials over their reaction to ICE misdeeds in their state. Thank Judge Schiltz for preventing this blatantly retaliatory harassment. The role of the DOJ is to investigate actual crimes, not to go after Trump’s opponents.

Judge James Patrick Hanlon ordered immigration officials to release Salah Sarsour, president of Wisconsin’s largest mosque, on the basis that he was targeted for speaking out in favor of Palestinian rights. Thank Judge Hanlon for standing up for Salah Sarsour’s rights and the First Amendment.

Jackson County Circuit Judge Jerri Zhang has struck down a series of restrictions on abortion in Missouri, finding they violated a constitutional amendment that voters approved in 2024 (and the state legislature is trying to roll back now). Thank Judge Zhang for not allowing decisions made by Missouri voters to be ignored.
