Action 1: GOP Says YES to Trump's Ballroom but NO to Feeding Newborns

From Rogan's List 5/6/26 and the National WIC Association

As always, the Republicans managed to find all the money they needed for Trump’s ballroom, a full $1 billion. Meanwhile, they’re insisting that our debt is far too high to afford programs that actually help regular Americans.

The House GOP has rolled out an agriculture appropriations bill for next year (yes, we’re starting to close in on the end of the fiscal year they’re not done funding) which would cut $200 million from the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, usually referred to as WIC. This program helps provide nutritious food, counseling on healthy eating, breastfeeding support and health care referrals to more than 6 million new and expectant parents and young childrenAround 5.4 million people would lose access to fruit and vegetable benefits if these cuts go through. And this is coming a time when Trump’s war on Iran and tariffs are spiking food prices.

Action 2: Mifepristone Access is Under Attack by GOP Judges

From Rogan's List 5/4/26

Thanks to President Biden's FDA allowing mifepristone to be prescribed via telehealth and shield laws effectively allowing blue state health-care providers to continue to provide reproductive care to those living under forced birth lawsthe number of abortions in America has not decreased since the Dobbs decision. We have managed to successfully fight a rear-guard action against the anti-choice movement, even as they continued to tighten the screws. However, on Friday, the GOP-dominated Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals temporarily blocked that FDA rule, as part of what Jessica Valenti of Abortion, Every Day has described as “the biggest attack on abortion since the end of Roe.”

Here are a few ways to fight back.

1. ‎Remind Congress that 64% of Americans say women who live in states where abortion is illegal should be able to receive mifepristone from a doctor in a state where it’s legal, and we want them to legally secure access regardless of what the courts do. 2. If you live in one of the 22 shield states (find out here) a shield state, contact your governor and attorney general. Thank them for their continued commitment to reproductive rights and women’s autonomy, tell them you don’t want Louisiana extremists dictating what happens in your state, and let them know how important it is that they protect providers who ship abortion pills across state lines.

3. If you live in New York, encourage Gov. Kathy Hochul to sign S8544/A9217, which further protects providers if the FDA’s approval status for mifepristone changes. (California passed a similar law last year.)

4. Add your name to this petition demanding that Costco follow industry leaders CVS and Walgreens, stand up for its members, and dispense mifepristone in its pharmacies now: https://sign.moveon.org/petitions/costco-mifepristone

Action 3: Senate Must Pass These Childcare-Related Bills

From Chop Wood Carry Water 5/4/26

The House recently passed two important childcare-related bills. The bipartisan SEED Act would extend the educator expense tax deduction for the first time to early childhood educators so they can deduct the cost of classroom supplies, and the Farm Bill package includes support for rural childcare.

Call or email your senators and urge them to support both of these bills. Write your own script or use this one.

The House recently passed two childcare-related bills that I’d like the Senator to support. The first is the SEED Act which would allow early childhood educators to deduct the cost of classroom supplies, and second is the Farm Bill package that includes support for rural childcare. Thank you.

Call Democratic early voters and make sure they know to vote for Jen Jordan and Miracle Rankin, two pro-rights and pro-democracy candidates, to the Georgia Supreme Court, and Will Wooten to the Georgia Court of Appeals. Hosted by the Democratic Party of Georgia. The election is on May 19.

The Environmental Voter Project is a nonpartisan, nonprofit focused on identifying an estimated 11.2 million environmentalists who did not vote in the 2024 presidential election, and efficiently converting them into a critical mass of consistent voters that will soon be too big for politicians to ignore.
