Action 1: New York Residents: Urge Governor Hochul to Tax the Rich
From Chop Wood Carry Water 4/21/26
You may have heard about Mayor Mamdani’s new “pied-a-terre tax,” announced recently in conjunction with Governor Hochul. It’s awesome, but not nearly enough to close NYC’s massive budget gap. Plus, Trump's cuts will force NY, like all states, to spend more in order to avoid catastrophic cuts to people’s healthcare and nutritional assistance. Because of this, a huge coalition of labor unions and progressive groups is now asking Governor Kathy Hochul to tax billionaires even further. But the resistance from corporate overlords and the mega rich is HUGE.
We need to really put the pressure on her! Please sign an open letter from New Yorkers Tax the Rich to Governor Hochul asking her to tax the rich, NOT cut services to the neediest New Yorkers! Remember, what starts in NY state can become a template for other states! Follow this link to sign the letter: https://dreamfornyc.com/action

Action 2: Democrats Need to Talk About 2024
From Rogan's List 4/24/26
It sure looks like Democrats are headed towards sweeping victories in this year’s midterms. But a wave would come in spite of Americans’ view of the party, not because of it. A recent CNN poll showed 56% of adults regard the Dems unfavorably, against just 28% favorable. If we’re going to defeat Trump and the oligarchs over the long run, we need to honestly grapple with that reality and how they gained power in the first place.
The party’s leadership has not been eager for that discussion. They still refuse to release the Democratic National Committee’s autopsy of their 2024 defeat, in spite of chair Ken Martin’s pledge to do so. A growing number of rank-and-file Democrats and electeds are demanding they do so, embracing the difficult conversation. Follow this link to send a pre-scripted message from RootsAction to DNC leadership calling on them to release the autopsy: https://rootsaction.org/email-dnc-release-autopsy-24-defeat/?utm_source=roganslist
Action 3: Thank these Brave Judges for Upholding the Rule of Law
From Rogan’s List 4/20/26
Facing threats, political pressure and a Supreme Court that has frequently not had their backs, lower court judges are still doing vitally important work to keep this administration’s power within the bounds of the law. Let’s send them a note or postcard to acknowledge their work and send encouragement to keep fighting!
Travis County Judge Amy Meachum ruled against changes to the “Historically Underutilized Business Program” in Texas that involved the decertification of female and minority business owners, presumably as part of an anti-DEI push. These excluded owners now re-qualify for the program until the case goes to trial in November. Thank Judge Meachum for upholding the rights of female and minority business owners to receive help from an organization created to assist them.

Federal Judge Darrin P. Gayles dismissed Trump’s $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal over its coverage of the ties between Trump and Epstein. Thank Judge Gayles for upholding the freedom of the press.

Judge Richard Leon has come under a great deal of pressure for his ruling in March that construction on the White House ballroom cannot proceed without congressional approval. The appeals court ordered that Leon had to re-evaluate his decision in light of national security concerns. Leon’s response was to call out this clear attempt to circumvent due process by an appeal to national security. Work on the bunker that was to be underneath the ballroom may resume, as that component meets the criteria of being a national security concern, but work on the ballroom does not qualify so is still paused. Thank Judge Leon for his courage despite the intense pressure being applied to compel him to withdraw his objections to this unlawful project.
