Action 1: Congress Must Reject the MEGA Act and the SAVE America Act

Every time we think the SAVE Act voter suppression bill is dead, it rears its ugly head again. But now there are 2 new versions (the MEGA [Make Elections Great Again] Act, and the SAVE America Act), and they're even worse than the original SAVE Act. Although the Senate previously stopped the SAVE Act, Donald Trump and his allies are escalating pressure to revive it in a more extreme form. Some supporters have openly discussed attaching the bill to must-pass legislation, while others have suggested dismantling long-standing Senate rules in order to force it through. This is not democratic reform - it is an attempt to change the rules because they cannot win under the current ones.

If either of these bills become law, millions of Americans could lose their ability to vote, and the executive branch would gain tremendous new powers to interfere with elections. They’re a so-called “solution” to a problem that simply does not exist.

The SAVE America Act passed the House last Thursday and now goes to the Senate for a vote. Follow this link to learn more about these laws and to send a pre-scripted letter to your members of Congress urging them to reject both of these bills and to make sure they are not attached to other must-pass legislation.

Action 2: Terminate Trump's Tariffs

Trump has imposed the highest tariffs this country has seen since the Great Depression, promising us that other countries would pay them and we’d see manufacturing jobs return to the United States.

He lied. A nonpartisan research group just found the Trump tariffs cost the average American household $1,000 last year, and that’s set to get even worse in 2026. Ninety-six percent of the costs of his import tax has been passed on to us, and manufacturing continues to shrink.

Congress could stop Trump from unilaterally imposing tariffs or put guardrails on its use. Congressional Democrats have introduced multiple measures to do just that, and Senate Dems rallied enough support to pass bills ending the Canada, Brazil and global 10% tariffs in October.

Rep. Gregory Meeks has introduced multiple resolutions to terminate tariffs, including H.J.Res. 72 (Canada), H.J.Res. 73 (Mexico), H.J.Res. 91 (global 10% tariff), H.J.Res. 117 and H.J.Res. 147 (Brazil). The House has passed the anti-Canada tariffs resolution 219-211 on Feb. 12, with six Republicans joining all Dems except Jared Golden. Rep. Meeks is promising to force votes on the anti-Mexico, anti-Brazil and anti-global tariffs in the coming days. We now have a real shot at passing several through Congress, a tremendous political blow for Trump and a clear message to the rest of the world that we intend to repair the damage he’s done.

Let’s reach out to our members of Congress and tell them to back the resolution to cut the Trump taxes. Write your own script or use these.

Action 3: Protect and Fund New York's Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act

In 2019, New York passed the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, one of the most ambitious climate laws in the country. However, New York is violating its own climate law. We're years behind schedule in fully implementing and funding our landmark law, and Governor Hochul has suggested she wants to weaken the law. We cannot let this continue.

It's time to make polluters pay and invest that money back into New York communities to lower energy bills, create tens of thousands of jobs in renewable energy and building upgrades, and create green, healthy homes.
