Bring Kilmar Abrego Garcia home
The White House is once again blatantly defying court orders and the law to keep an innocent man behind bars in a foreign land, with the connivance of another nation’s dictator. Kilmar Abrego Garcia is a 14-year resident of the United States who is married to a U.S. citizen and is the father of another. He has no criminal history, was not a gang member, and had legal protection against removal , but was nevertheless, deported to El Salvador and locked in a dangerous maximum security prison in what even Trump’s lawyers admit was a mistake. The Supreme Court has ordered the administration to facilitate bringing him home but Trump has refused. The Vice-President of El Salvador Felix Ulloa admitted that they cannot return Abrego Garcia because the Trump Administration is paying El Salvador to keep him. This directly contradicts the sworn declaration of the general counsel of the Department of Homeland Security to a federal judge. In addition, Trump is also endorsing similar detention for U.S. citizens, telling Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele “the homegrowns are next… you gotta build about five more places.” This is imprisonment without trial or appeal - classic acts of a tyrant.
All of our institutions must rise to this moment. Call or email your elected officials at all levels – members of Congress, governors, state legislators and attorneys general – and demand they respond to Trump’s refusal to abide by judicial rulings.

Our Members of Congress need to take real action:
Oppose everything the Trump Administration puts forward until this stops.
Refuse to fund deportations and detention, and bar any payments from being made to El Salvador until they release Kilmar and the other prisoners to us.
Use all procedural measures to bring Capitol Hill to a stop until Kilmar is rescued and everyone this regime has targeted is able to use their basic rights.
Do everything within your ability to reassert the judiciary’s power to stop Trump from acting as a dictator.

Save Head Start
Reports have leaked that the Trump Administration is considering eliminating Head Start, a program that offers child care and preschool to low-income families. This would serve as a new front on Trump’s war on kids that is already coming after Medicaid, childhood vaccination programs, pediatric cancer research, school lunches and funding for K-12 public schools.
Right now, more than 750,000 kids get early learning, meals, development screenings and health care thanks to Head Start, and more than a million parents rely on the program to look after their kids so they can go to work. It offers relief for areas with few child care options and saves working families almost $12,000 a year. Read about the long history of great results with Head Start here.

Save the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. has fired the entire staff administering the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), and the White House is reportedly considering eliminating it altogether. LIHEAP provides financial support 6.2 million American households to help pay their heating and cooling bills, and in 2023 it helped 2.7 million families restore power or prevent disconnections (find state-by-state details here). Right now, almost $400 million in funding is frozen because there’s no one to distribute it.
LIHEAP was already underfunded and the need for it is only growing. One in four Americans were unable to keep up with their energy bills last year, and we are set to see utilities raise energy prices because of Trump’s tariffs. More people will die because they can’t afford to heat and cool their homes after these cuts – and soon.

All the funding needs to be released and the federal workers who run the program need to be reinstated. The idea of eliminating it needs to be a dealbreaker for the next spending bills. More than 6 million Americans and ______ in our state (SEE DATA HERE) count on LIHEAP to be able to heat and cool their homes. Trump and Kennedy killing the program will make basic needs harder to afford, especially since they’re already deliberately raising prices with their tariffs! People will die if they can’t afford heat and cool their homes.
