Understanding Zoning in Erie County - How to Advocate for Change

Join Good Neighbors Getting it Done in Western New York on March 31 at 7 PM for a free, nonpartisan, informational workshop on understanding zoning laws in Erie County towns and villages. Register at https://bit.ly/GNzoning to get the Zoom info. This first workshop (available here: https://bit.ly/GNZoningDrive) focused on the basics, this workshop will start to get into how residents can stay informed and advocate for policy change. The workshop will feature a guest speaker with first-hand experience with zoning laws and policies. Why care about zoning? Zoning laws shape the look of our communities, determine the process for the purchase and sale of buildings, regulate how buildings can be used, and more. Some of our neighbors in nearby counties found out too late that a project was moving forward. Some found out in time and were able to get their voices heard. Regardless of what projects you're watching - national efforts related to migration, commercial projects like datacenters with an established history of negatively impacting the quality of life in a community, or others - the local zoning process is a lynchpin to understanding local government. Learn how to advocate for, against, or just how things work. This is also a great workshop for those interested in serving in local government but do not want to run for office.
