Action 1: Dreamers and TPS Holders Need a Pathway to Citizenship

We’re now in the midst of one of the largest de-legalizations of immigrants in our nation’s history. People who have lived in this country for years, who don’t know any other life, who are valued and beloved members of our community, are now at risk. And despite what right-wing propaganda insists, significant majorities of Americans believe there should be a route for them to make the United States their home for good. We need to make ourselves heard.

Rep. Sylvia Garcia (D-TX) has introduced a discharge petition to force a vote on the American Dream and Promise Act (H.R. 1589), legislation that would provide a pathway to citizenship for 4.4 million immigrant young people, Dreamers and temporary protected status holders. This is the sort of broad-based solution that may be out of reach right now, but that we need to keep building support for. We need 218 signatures from House members to bring it to the House floor - 210 have signed so far.

Action 2: Trump's Executive Order Will Make Our Kids Sick Again

Antivaxxers have already brought the United States to the verge of un-eliminating measles, and the Trump regime is trying to give them even more power and influence. Ignoring the warnings of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the rest of the medical community, Trump signed an executive order calling for revamped childhood vaccine recommendations in line with his and RFK Jr's discredited claims that there is some advantage in spacing them out into separate medical visits. This would raise the risk that children will become infected with preventable diseases between appointments. The order also calls for federal agencies to support challenges to strong vaccines laws.

The good news is that the states, rather than the federal government, have the authority to set the vaccination schedule for schoolchildren. Let’s make sure they know the public wants them to follow the medicine, not the propaganda.

Action 3: Stand Up for Dr. Anthony Fauci

On August 6, Senate Republicans on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee voted to hold 85-year-old Dr. Anthony Fauci in contempt of Congress. The Republicans on the Senate panel referred the contempt resolution to the Justice Department without a full-Senate vote - a likely illegal act.

Stand Up for Science published a Stand Up for Fauci Petition to Congress to rescind the contempt referral to the Justice Department immediately.
