Trump is fighting to make our energy bills higher

Adapted from Joe Katz at Rogan's List 12/23

Energy bills have increased 13% since Trump took office for his second term in January. With the growing demand from data centers combined with his efforts to kill cheaper clean energy projects, ordinary Americans are paying the price.

Recently, the regime announced the suspension of federal leases for all five large offshore wind projects under construction, one of which is nearly complete. They’re refusing to say why, citing a classified Defense Department report raising national security concerns in what Ars Technica says “appears to be an attempt to avoid legal scrutiny.” This will stall nearly six gigawatts of new electricity set to come online in the next few years and threaten thousands of jobs, in addition to making our struggle with the climate crisis that much harder.

This comes just after the house passed the SPEED Act (H.R. 4776),  a bipartisan permitting reform bill that will theoretically allow faster development of both pipelines and transmission lines for wind and solar. As opponents have repeatedly pointed out, with an administration that is actively blocking green energy, it’s a giveaway to fossil fuels and nothing more.

Key Senate Democrats immediately said they were walking way from talks on advancing the bill until the decision was reversed. Let’s make sure every single one of them does the same. Follow this link to send a pre-scripted letter to both of your Senators telling them not to support the SPEED Act: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/tell-the-us-senate-stop-the-speed-act-we-cant-trust-trump/?source=roganslist

Enforce fair housing laws

From Joe Katz at Rogan’s List 12/18

Work on Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations is approaching crucial points. The House is pushing forward with a bill that would eliminate crucial funding for local fair housing organizations, likely leading to many of them closing their doors. These are the community-based groups that we count on to stand up when housing providers attempt to shut out the most vulnerable, and their work is even more important now with Trump’s Department of Housing and Urban Development dramatically reducing their efforts to enforce the law.

The National Fair Housing Alliance has built an email tool for us to reach out to our members of Congress and urge them to fully fund fair housing infrastructure. Follow this link to learn more and send a pre-scripted message to your senators and House rep:

Legislators should step up against the secret police

From Joe Katz at Rogan’s List 12/18 and the National Immigration Law Center

Across America, a secret police force is operating in plain sight. ICE and other federal agents are throwing people into unmarked vans, lurking outside of schools, and attacking people in Home Depot parking lots. This echoes some of the darkest moments in American history, and we should take a lesson from how folks back then responded. Free state governments stepped up to offer what protections they could against fugitive slave laws. Now it’s time for blue states to do the same.

Our friends at the National Immigration Law Center have created a tool to make it easy to contact your state legislators and urge them to help counter secret police tactics in our streets - barring law enforcement from obscuring their faces, limiting collaboration with enforcement that violates civil rights, establishing safe places in state, city or county facilities where access requires a judicial warrant, and creating a hotline and online portal for the public to report harms from federal deployments or immigration enforcement. Follow this link to send a pre-scripted email to your State Legislators: https://act.nilc.org/page/91483/action/1?ea.tracking.id=roganslist
